Núria Pastor-Soler MD, PhD (Advisory Council)

Dr. Pastor-Soler is an Associate Professor of Medicine in the USC/UKRO Kidney Research Center and the Division of Nephrology and Hypertension at the Keck School of Medicine of USC, where she also holds the position of Assistant Dean for Research Mentoring. Dr. Pastor-Soler is a practicing nephrologist, basic scientist, and educator. Her laboratory is active in research on kidney and epithelial biology and pursues studies on acid-base physiology, intercalated cell function, acute kidney injury, transport-metabolism coupling, and kidney epithelial physiology. She has been co-chair of the American Physiological Society (APS) Epithelial Transport Group, and she is the Vice-Chair of the American Heart Association (AHA) Kidney Council.

Dr. Pastor-Soler became a member of WIN in 2004 and was a WIN Councilor for one term before becoming President-Elect in 2015. As a WIN member she was co-chair of the Professional Development Seminar (PDS) from 2006 through 2008 and she is part of the in the PDS advisory committee. Dr. Pastor-Soler recognizes the importance of personalized advice and mentoring for career advancement. She continues to mentor trainees in medical and professional school, in kidney research and nephrology fields, through WIN, ASN, AHA and APS activities, as well as at the Keck School of Medicine in Los Angeles. In 2006, she was the first recipient of the National Institutes of Health R13 grant awarded to WIN to support the PDS. These grant awards have funded trainee travel to the PDS/WIN-ASN Kidney week for a decade. She has spearheaded the efforts to increase the number of women experts in kidney medicine and research listed in the Women's Media Center SheSource database.
