Li-Li Hsiao Leadership Fellowship Award

WIN is pleased to announce the establishment of the Li-Li Hsiao Leadership Fellowship Award. This Fellowship is in honor of Dr. Hsiao's longstanding mentorship and leadership in WIN and her role in advancing leadership in the community on behalf of patients. Dr. Hsiao is a Past President of WIN and she has been a tireless mentor, enhancing the career development of women and men through WIN and locally in Boston. This Fellowship will be a year-long tenure given to a clinical or research fellow to learn about leadership in a national organization. The individual chosen for this Fellowship will join the Executive Council at ASN Kidney Week as well as at our leadership conference "Learn to Lead", at which the Fellow will present on her/his experience as a Hsiao Fellow. Nancy E. Gary Memorial Luncheon Lecture

WIN welcomed the 2019 Gary Memorial Luncheon speakers, Dr. Francis Collins, Director of the National Institutes of Health, and his daughter, Dr. Margaret B. Collins, Board Certified in Nephrology, an American Society of Hypertension Certified Hypertension Specialist and Founder of Consults in Hypertension, PA. The luncheon and lecture entitled "Two Generations of Perspective on Women in Medicine" were extremely well attended and the Drs. Collins gave a rousing "jam session" along with a great discussion. WIN conducted a "Career Navigation: A workshop on early professional development"

This 4-hour workshop was targeted towards fellows and junior faculty and discussed early career transition in academic and private practice, challenges faced by early-career researchers, time management, mentorship, building a national reputation and leadership, and unconscious bias in medicine and science. WIN faculty that gave talks included Drs. Lisa Curtis, Silvi Shah, Manisha Singh, and Michelle Rheault. The workshop was well attended and applauded by trainees and junior faculty.


WIN organized the mentorship initiative in collaboration with NBLU 2019

WIN in collaboration with Nephrology Business Leadership University (NBLU), held a mentorship meet-and-greet session. NBLU women attendees, who were nephrology fellows from all around the country were paired with WIN faculty for mentorship depending on their area of interest - clinical medicine, private practice, education, and research. This was followed by a meet and greet session with a keynote speech from Dr. Holly Kramer, president of the National Kidney Foundation (NKF). WIN faculty that spearheaded and conducted the mentorship program included Drs. Scherly Leon, Natasha Dave, and Silvi Shah. WIN councilor, Dr. Scherly Leon was invited and participated in a leadership panel discussion along with other invited leaders from ASN and NKF.

Career Advancement Webinar: Negotiating for Leadership Success

WIN has joined with the American Society of Nephrology (ASN) to develop a series of educational programs based on identified knowledge gaps related to career paths within the field of nephrology. The WIN-ASN Career Advancement Series will include programs presented as original (live/remote) webinars that will be electronically captured and made available for follow-up viewing on the ASN Learning Center. The third webinar, Negotiating for Leadership Success was streamed live from the University of Southern California, Keck School of Medicine, in Los Angeles, CA on April 27, 2017 and is now available for viewing in the ASN Learning Center.
