A key component of KIDNEYcon's mission is to build enthusiasm for the field of nephrology among residents and fellows and to encourage research careers in nephrology. We also aim to facilitate collaborative research projects among participants of the conference. The conference is a platform for nephrologists and medicine trainees to interact with experts from across the nation and learn about and discuss recent advancements in the diagnosis and treatment of kidney disease. Planning for KIDNEYcon 2019 is still underway; however, the meeting will focus on hypertension, AKI, and pediatric nephrology. The meeting agenda and more details will be available in late August. The 2018 conference featured seven hands-on workshops that simulated realistic practice conditions, a Nephrology Education Summit focused on innovations in education within the nephrology field, and a scientific and clinical conference focused on AKI and liver disease and kidney stones.
