WIN Archives
Attention Historians – kudos to Sandra Levison! We now have our WIN archives
stored in the Women in Medicine Collection at the Archives and Special
Collections of Drexel University College of Medicine:
Thanks to the efforts of Sandra Levison, WIN material is now
archived at the Archives and Special Collections on Women in Medicine (http://library.mcphu.edu/archives).
The Special Collections on the national and international history of women in
medicine is fittingly held at Drexel University, the home of the first W omen’s
Medical College and the Medical College of Pennsylvania (WMC/MCP). The mission
of the W MC/MCP Archives and Special Collections is to “identify, collect,
preserve, and make accessible records and artifacts that have historical,
administrative, legal, fiscal, and intrinsic value” reflecting the history of
women in medicine. This special collection started in the 18th Century and
includes the correspondence and documents of alumnae and women physicians,
including the pioneers of women in medicine, as well as from the presidents,
deans and faculty of the W MC/MCP. Also included in the archives are oral
histories of women in medicine, records of women’s hospitals throughout the
U.S., photographs of women performing surgery dating from the 19th century, and
national and international records of women’s medical organizations, like WIN!
