Amy W. Williams, MD

Dr. Williams is an Associate Professor of Medicine in the Mayo Medical School and consultant in the Division of Hypertension and Nephrology. Dr. Williams was recently appointed to the Rochester Executive Operations Team. This executive team is responsible for oversight of Mayo Clinic Rochester and accountable to the Mayo Clinic president/CEA and the Mayo Clinic Rochester staff.

Dr. Williams recently stepped down from being the Chair for the Inpatient Practice to become Vice Chair of the Department of Medicine. In addition she currently serves as Associate Medical Director for Development. She received her M.D. from Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine and was elected into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honors Society. She also received an outstanding student award in Cardiology. She completed both residency training in Internal Medicine and a fellowship in Nephrology at Mayo Clinic. Her main areas of interest are in chronic and acute renal failure and innovative renal replacement therapy, specifically home dialysis and frequent daily and nocturnal modalities. Dr. Williams serves as an Associate Director of Dialysis for Mayo Dialysis Services.

Dr. Williams has been active in many Mayo Clinic Rochester and Mayo Foundation initiatives. She served on the Officers and Councilors of the Mayo Rochester Voting Staff as a counselor under 40 and was elected president of the Mayo Rochester Staff. She is the past Associate Chair for Faculty Development and Associate Chair for the Inpatient Practice in the Department of Medicine. In these positions she headed multiple initiatives including new mentoring models, authored and implemented a part time policy for staff, Respect and Recognition Guidelines as well as redesign of the Department of Medicine inpatient practice. In her role as a member of the Mayo Clinic Rochester Hospital Practice Committee she lead an initiative to redesign the admissions process and census management for all the Mayo Clinic Rochester Hospitals. In addition, she has served on numerous divisional, departmental, institutional, and foundation committees focusing on education, practice, diversity and faculty development.

Sharon Silbiger, MD

Sharon Silbiger is a Professorin the Department of Medicine at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York City. Her career interests span Graduate and Undergraduate Medical Education and the field of Nephrology. Between 2001-2009, Sharon served as the Director of the Internal Medicine Residency Training Program at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine/Montefiore Medical Center and since 2009, is the Associate Chair for Undergraduate Medical Education at the Institution. As such, she oversees the medicine training of all third and fourth year Einstein students across all clinical sites and rotations. In the field of Nephrology, Sharon is the Einstein Renal Division Site Director at the Montefiore Medical Center, teaches the renal fellows and lectures in the Einstein Renalpathophysiology course. Her research interests span the fields of Nephrology and Medical Education. In the former, her focus is on the role of gender in the progression of renal disease. In addition, Sharon is a journal reviewer for several Nephrology journals, is a member of the ASN task force on Renal Careers and is a member of the Association of Academic Internal Medicine's Public Policy Committee. Sharon has been a member of WIN for many years and before her tenure as President, served on the WIN council.

Anne Pesenson, MD, FASN

Anne Pesenson, MD, FASN, is a board-certified nephrologist who treats the full spectrum of kidney conditions including difficult to control hypertension, kidney stones, chronic kidney disease, dialysis, renal cystic disorders, fluid and electrolyte abnormalities, and diagnosis and treatment of transplant rejection. A member of the American Society of Nephrology, Dr. Pesenson is fellowship trained in transplant nephrology, with extensive experience in treating patients with kidney and pancreas transplants as well as recipients of other organ transplants who experience kidney complications.

Dr. Pesenson believes in educating her patients about their medical conditions and works with them to select the best treatment options.

Kelly E. Guglielmi, MD

Qi Qian, MD

Dr. Qian is an Associate Professor of Medicine and Physiology at Mayo Clinic School of Medicine, a consultant at Mayo Clinic Rochester, and a faculty member of Mayo Graduate School. Dr. Qian received her MD from Shanghai Second Medical University and completed her Internal Medicine and Nephrology training at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in June 1999. She was recruited to Mayo Clinic in July 1999. Since joining the division, she has been active in clinical practice, research as well as administrative work. Her clinical interests are in hereditary renal diseases and renal tubular dysfunctions. Dr. Qian heads the Mayo Clinic Acid-base Electrolyte Interest Group and Acid-base Electrolyte Subspecialty Clinic. Over the years, she has mentored numerous trainees. She was honored as a top educator by the Internal Medicine trainees at Mayo Clinic in 2010. As a clinician investigator, she has made several important discoveries in the functional role of polycystins in vascular smooth muscle cells. She was awarded a CR-75 (Mayo Clinic clinician investigator award) and NIH KO8 and RO3 awards. In her administrative role, Dr. Qian served a member of the Educational Committee (1999-2006), of the Mayo Clinic Quality Control Initiative Group: QUEST Project for Heart Failure, Management, and Improvement Initiative (a recipient of the Mayo Clinic Excellence Through Teamwork Award in 2008), of the Research Committee in the Division of Nephrology, of the Institutional Review Board (IRB), and of the Minnesota Medical Association Quality Improvement Board. Dr. Qian was a member of the organizing committee for the 2010 Professional Development Seminar, organized by Women in Nephrology (WIN). She will co-chair the 2011 Professional Development Seminar.
